Again, pain
It's touch now a constant
The underlying fabric of existence

A soul tempered by agony
A fate undefined, forces misaligned

Flesh crawls
The worms digging deep
My body succumbing to my mind's twisted perception

Visions of arterial past, future paths wind before me
Though my vision is clouded, they dwell in my memory

But I still hope
As I call from my solitary existence
Until one day
The quandary arises

Light in the sky
A shining beacon
Reaching out to lead me home
On opposing side
To a newly lit flame
Wanting to caress me with heat

“What is this? A lucid dream? A new form of hell? I call out to the abyss, my harsh screams the only sound.”

I stand, transfixed
Not knowing which way to turn
Eternally suspended
Between the star and the flame

I try to move forward
But as I approach
The choice dims
Always stronger at my back

I cannot decide, I must ponder
Maybe there will be a sign?
A divine touch that will signal the way?
Or is this a hell concocted by the recesses of my mind
Willing another in this endless void?

After aeons of debate
The choice no clearer
I close my eyes
And breathe one last time

Looking into my soul
I finally realise
Even fire gutters
Even starlight dies

So I walk into the darkness
Embracing the shadows as they consume me
Knowing that finally
I am home
